Mayor Joel Villarreal, with a delegation of several local officials and special guests attended the Abrazo de la Amistad ceremony in honor of Camargo’s Dia del Comercio y Tourismo 2018.
“We share one of eleven official border crossings between the states of Texas and Tamaulipas and we recognize and value the impact and opportunity this provides to our two great cities,” said Mayor Joel Villarreal.
This ceremony celebrates a tradition of friendship and cooperation between the two countries that traces back to the original signing of the Amistad Dam Treaty by US President Dwight D. Eisenhower and Mexico’s Adolfo Lopez Mateos on October 24, 1960.
“We are honored to have you here today. This bridge unites our two cities and we are proud to say nothing can divide us. We are united by our roots, our people and our blood,” said Joel Laredo Gomez, President of the Camara de Comercio Camargo.
