Rio Grande City EDC in partnership with UTRGV Small Business Development Center, Greater Rio Grande City Chamber of Commerce, Rio Grande City Public Library, Starr County Industrial Foundation and the Rio Grande Valley Hispanic Chamber of Commerce hosted a Lunch & Learn workshop on Tuesday April 30, 2019 at UTRGV at Starr County Campus in Rio Grande City.
Workshop panelists provided information on business financing options, free business counseling and non-profit business loan lenders. Speakers included Marcela Arredondo from UTRGV Small Business Development Center, Veronica Ortega from the U.S. Small Business Administration, Marlene Rodriguez from LiftFund, Inc., Jose Riojas from IBC Bank and Sam Lopez from BBVA Compass Bank.
The workshop covered information of services and resources available to entrepreneurs and small business owners. BBVA Compass Bank and IBC Bank offer commercial lending options for small businesses. LiftFund, Inc. is a non-profit business loan lender and provides small business loans to those who do not have access to capital from typical lending sources, such as traditional banks. The Small Business Administration provides financial, management and technical assistance as well as business training. The Small Business Development Center provides free, individual business counseling and low-cost advanced training to help find practical solutions for small businesses.
“We partner with UTRGV SBDC to provide workshops geared towards business owners to provide information useful in the growth and expansion of their business,” said Dalinda Guillen, Rio Grande City EDC Executive Director. “Different topics are provided throughout the year such as human resources, marketing and so much more.”
