Rio Grande City provides relief for small businesses with free PPE

Rio Grande City small businesses will soon have the chance to receive a free safety kit to further help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The City of Rio Grande City, together with the Rio Grande City EDC will host a curbside distribution of PPE kits for small business at City Hall located at 5332 E U.S. Highway 83 in Rio Grande City on Monday, October 5, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., while supplies last.

Each kit, valued at $45 contains 100 disposable gloves, 50 disposable face masks, a 32 oz. bottle of liquid hand sanitizer, health and safety protocol information, floor decals and posters. In addition, non-contact digital thermometers will be available and reserved for barbershops and hair and nail salons, while supplies last.

To qualify for the free kit, the businesses must be located in the city limits of Rio Grande City and have 25 employees or less.

Business representatives shall remain in their vehicle to drive through the distribution line, check in with city staff, and then open their trunk, window or door for a contactless delivery.

“This is a great opportunity for us to keep our local economy going and reinforce the safety measures necessary to keep businesses open,” said Rey Ramirez, Rio Grande City EDC Board President. “We’re glad to help Rio Grande City businesses and their customers remain protected and safe.”

This is the latest pandemic support project for small business offered by the City of Rio Grande City and Rio Grande City EDC. In early August, they announced a Rio Grande City Small Business Relief Grant to help qualifying small business impacted by the COVID 19 pandemic. Applications are accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis through September 30. Details for these projects and other resources are available online at cityofrgc.com and rgcedc.com.
