“Our law enforcement partnerships go along way and make a difference. The City of Rio Grande City ranked 8th out of 2, 929 of Texas cities with a population of over 10,000.

"We are extremely proud of our Rio Grande City Police Department. This is a testament to the leadership of Chief Castillo and the great work our officers do to ensure the safety of our community," said Mayor Joel Villarreal. "We thank them for their efforts for making Rio Grande City a safe place to live, work, and enjoy life."

In determining the ranking, the study used the most recent FBI crime statistics and U.S. Census data to create the state ranking. Their process for determining the rankings used three main variables; violent crime rate, property crime rate and the number of employed police officers.
