Rio Grande City leaders broke ground on the commercial project in October 2019. Joined at that time by local, state and federal officials, they announced the project was years in the making and a collective effort to create jobs and expand retail opportunities in Starr County.

Members of the Greater Rio Grande City Chamber of Commerce were also present to celebrate the opening of the new street and welcome the prospect of new retailers to the area.
