Main Street installs new tables on Britton Avenue

Historic Downtown Rio Grande City now has another attraction - a spot for chess lovers to enjoy the game outdoors. Six new permanent tables, with engraved chessboards, were installed along the north side of Britton Avenue between 2nd and 3rd Streets.

“Downtown Rio Grande City has another place where families and students can gather and experience our downtown in a new way,” said Rosa Gonzalez, Main Street Advisory Board President. “We invite all our chess lovers, whether you’re a beginner or a master, to visit Britton Avenue.”

The project is part of Main Street’s ongoing beautification efforts for downtown.

The Rio Grande City Main Street Program provides many opportunities to get involved in downtown revitalization efforts. Anyone interested in volunteering is encouraged to visit the Main Street office at 406. E. Main Street or call (956) 488-0047.
