The Rio Grande City Economic Development Corporation held its second Rio Grande City Employer Expo and Job Fair in Rio Grande City. This event was organized by the Rio Grande City EDC in collaboration with Workforce Solutions, Rio Grande City Public Library and UTRGV at Starr County Campus to bring together employers and jobseekers in Rio Grande City with career opportunities.
The two-day event began on January 24th with three free workshops hosted by the Rio Grande City Public Library. Michelle Rodriguez, South Texas College Career & Employer Services and Myra Lozano, STC College Connections presented a Dress for Success fashion show and resume writing tips. On hand to help with the fashion show were members of the Student Ambassador Program-STC Chapter. In addition, Alberto Perez, RGC City Manager gave tips and insight on what employers are looking for when interviewing. These activities led up to the Employer Expo and Job Fair on January 25th.
Employers such as Rio Grande City CISD, Idea Public Schools and Nuestra Clinica del Valle and many others were present and looking to fill positions in the event. Well over 150 job seekers attended the job fair.
“Overall, this is our first time participating in a job fair and we’ve had success with receiving many applicants,” said Raul Rios, Owner, J&R Brothers Transport, LLC.
