For the ninth consecutive year, Rio Grande City Main Street has been designated an Accredited Main Street America program, a recognition that reflects its commitment to revitalizing and preserving the city's heart.

The Rio Grande City Main Street Program is evaluated annually by Texas Main Street, which works with the National Main Street Center to identify the local programs that meet rigorous performance standards. These standards set the benchmarks for measuring an individual Main Street program application of the Main Street Four-Point Approach® to commercial district revitalization. Evaluation criteria determine the communities' building comprehensive and sustainable revitalization efforts and include standards such as fostering strong public-private partnerships, tracking economic progress, preserving historic buildings, and more.

“We are proud to see the Rio Grande City Main Street once again earn national accreditation,” said Mayor Gilberto Falcon. “This recognition reflects our commitment to preserving our historic downtown while supporting local businesses and economic growth. I commend our Main Street Advisory Board, volunteers, and the Rio Grande City EDC for their dedication to revitalizing our downtown.”

“This national accreditation reflects our City's dedication,” said Diana Saldaña, Rio Grande City Main Street Advisory Board President. “I’m proud to be part of a program that continues to strengthen and celebrate our historic downtown.”

The Rio Grande City Main Street Program provides services and assistance to Main Street businesses, including Design Assistance from the Texas Historical Commission and much more.  Rio Grande City Main Street also hosts special events throughout the year.

The Rio Grande City Main Street Program provides many opportunities to get involved in downtown revitalization efforts. Anyone interested in volunteering is encouraged to visit the Rio Grande City Main Street office at 408 E. Main Street or call (956) 488-0047.
